Children’s Ministry
By Joni Mindrebo
“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
(Proverbs 22:6)
Back to Sunday School time is upon us! On September 10th, the 9 o’clock Sunday School hour returned for the school year. We are entering our last year in the Gospel Project curriculum, and looking forward to finishing our broad overview of the Bible next summer. Until Christmas, we will continue learning about the life of Christ – studying how Jesus is the perfect Prophet, the perfect Priest, and the perfect King. Slowing down to focus on Jesus, our first unit will cover the final days of His life as He continued to warn people to turn from sin and trust in Him. The entire second unit will look at Jesus’ rejection and arrest taking time to study the Last Supper. The final unit will look at Christ’s death and resurrection – celebrating Him as the perfect King.
Recognizing Jesus as our perfect King is a wonderful opportunity for children to start thinking about the Kingdom of God. The children’s hallways are decorated with images of royalty, and declare that “God is the King of me!” Jesus commanded that the children be allowed to come to Him, “for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” ( Matthew 19:14) Children clearly have an important place in God’s Kingdom. The images in the hallways and the way we speak to them about the King Jesus will begin to grow the truth in their hearts of who they are – the sons and daughters of God!
Will you pray with me for our Springton Lake Church children this fall? Pray that the truth of who Jesus is will merge with the truth of who He created them to be. As they are learning those two truths, please pray that God will establish a deep love for Him that will last through their entire lives!
